Nashville is studded with beautiful, lush natural areas and parks, both in the skyline-centric heart of downtown and where the city softens into the suburbs. Places like Radnor Lake and Cumberland Park have long been favorites, as well as East Nashville’s beautiful Shelby Park. To up the ante, the Shelby Bottoms Greenway provides an easy way for you to get outside with your friends and family when the weather gets warm. Check it out below, and maybe dust off your bike. You just might want to give it a spin around the park.
Editor’s Note: Some facilities and recreational opportunities may not be available in the aftermath of the Nashville tornadoes.
Shelby Park is an urban park that's located along the beautiful Cumberland River. The park itself plays host not only to the famed Greenway, but a whole slew of recreational opportunities.
You'll find everything from a dog park to playgrounds, baseball fields, golf courses and even a community center. Found between the Lockeland Springs and Shelby Hills neighborhoods, Shelby Park is perfectly situated for families and singles alike to enjoy.
In total, there's over 361 acres of land in Shelby Park, but with the addition of Shelby Bottoms and the historic Cornelia Fort Airpark, there's more than 1,000 acres of greenspace.
Shelby Bottoms Greenway and Natural Area extends Shelby Park out north towards Two Rivers. In total it comes to 960-acres, and has roughly three miles of waterfront trail.
With more than five miles of trails in total available for biking, skating, hiking, running and walking, there's no end to the fun opportunities on the Shelby Bottoms Greenway.
Looking to visit? Shelby Bottoms Greenway is open from dusk until dawn every day. This true oasis in the city is well worth a Saturday spent, and we'd recommend coming early in the day before the crush of crowds. It's truly a beautiful place.
