Nashville is definitely a city known for its nightlife and coffee-infused mornings and beautiful, if sporadic weather throughout the year, but it's also nestled right in the midst of Tennessee's lush mid-state. If you live in the city or you find yourself visiting, we'd recommend stopping at Radnor Lake, a natural area located just on Nashville's outskirts. Radnor Lake Trail, the most popular hiking trail in the park, offers a myriad of views that will keep you enthralled from your starting point to its end.
Radnor Lake is located just south of the city of Nashville, Tennessee, and is known for boasting almost 1,400 acres of beautiful outdoor space. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 20 minutes after sunset throughout the year.
There is a visitor center on-site, as well as an education center that hosts scheduled tours and events throughout the year. The Class II Natural Area is for day-use only, but with almost eight miles of trails, it's great for the outdoor enthusiast and hiking newbie.
Radnor Lake is an easy, breezy 2.4-mile hike that loops the lake with a subtle 170-foot elevation gain. It is partially paved, but we'd recommend being ready to enjoy most of the hike along the wooded forest floor.
The trail is well-shaded which makes it a great place to hike during the warmer summer months. Although dogs are not allowed on a majority of the trail, you can choose to walk the paved trails in Radnor Lake to bring Fido along.
The views along Radnor Lake Trail are absolutely stunning! You'll wander from the woods to the lake along the loop, and the trail is clearly marked and consistently maintained. Quiet and shady, this may just be the most peaceful place in Nashville.
Make sure you keep your eyes out for wildlife along the trail! The area is flush with not only a myriad of plant life, but you may just see frogs, lizards, turtles, and even deer gathering along the lakeshore.
Have you been to Radnor Lake? We'd recommend visiting earlier in the day, as the park is fairly popular and parking can get difficult the later you visit. This is one trail that's perfect for visiting with friends but may just provide a bit of respite if you have the chance to wander on your own.
You can find out more about the Radnor Lake Loop both at AllTrails and the official Tennessee state park website.
Enjoy all the fun of Nashville with an afternoon spent on a pontoon on the lake!
