Sassafras Market & Deli just opened in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood, a petite shop that's become known as the areas urban micro-market.

Wait, what's a micro-market?! The idea of the micro-market is derived from a much more European way of grocery shopping, where shoppers visit multiple times a week instead of once or twice and buying in bulk. Micro-grocers encourage shoppers to recognize how and when they'll use their food, where it's sourced from and how long it has actually been sitting on the shelf.

Sassafras also makes sandwiches and french fries to order, meshing a European grocer with a New England delicatessen flair.

Their classic burger and fries meal is a truly delicious take on the American classic, but if you're a fan of your childhood egg salad classic, know that it comes highly recommended.

The grilled cheese paired with Berkshire bacon looks like a dream, doesn't it? There's nothing like a cheese pull to have us all in and ready to indulge.

The homemade fries are definitely a must-try, made with natural potatoes and sunflower oil. Simple is best out at Sassafras, and after trying these yummy fried sides we have to agree.

"The Goat" is served with burnt butter bacon jam, honey blueberry goat cheese and jalapeno relish all on a fluffy brioche bun. That's the kind of lunch you can be proud of, folks.
