Nashville has new restaurants popping up all the time, all over the city. It’s not rare to have five new chic, modern, and avant-garde spots all pop up in the same month or even the same neighborhood. Luckily, there are the old tried-and-true staples that have been holding down our Nashville neighborhoods for years. And when it comes to pizza? There’s a few spots that have gotten it so right that they’ve been around for thirty years or more! We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite old school pizza parlors that you just have to try out if you’re looking for a good, old-fashioned slice.
Mafioza's has long been a traditional staple on 12th Ave South. They're known for their 2-for-Tuesdays when both slices and drinks are buy-one-get-one. They've been in business for over 15 years now. 2400 12th Avenue S.
Manny's in The Arcade is relatively unknown by Nashvillians who don't live or work downtown, but it's been in business for 34 years! The pies and the pepperoni rolls are where it's at. 15 Arcade Alley.
Pizza Perfect on 21st Ave S is a favorite of college students, situated right between Belmont and Vanderbilt. They also serve up pizza by the slice, and they've been in business since the 1983. 1602 21st Ave. S.
Sal's Family Pizza now has 12 locations, but Sal himself has been serving up pizza to the folks of Nashville for over 37 years. They recently opened a location in Brentwood, but the Franklin location is the original. 595 Hillsboro Rd #311.
The amazing thing about Joey's House of Pizza is that it's only open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. But they serve up pizza by the slice along with other cafeteria-style pasta dishes that will blow your mind. Expect a long wait because this place has been popular since it opened in 1999. 897 Elm Hill Pike.
Angelo's represents Antioch on the list, having been in operation since 1999 as well. Angelo's two sons now own the restaurant, and it's just as good as ever. They even have a buffet! 2713 Murfreesboro Pike.
Last but not least, Sicilian Pizza & Pasta is another easily-overlooked spot in downtown, but their pies are the best in the area. We couldn't find when it opened, but its established style has a reputation in the city for being one of the best old-school parlors around. 905 Church St.
When it comes to tried-and-true restaurants, Nashville has plenty. Check out this 20-seat restaurant that’s hard to get in to but is so worth the wait.
