The Butterfly Garden In Tennessee That’s The Perfect Family Destination
If you’re headed to the zoo, you’re probably looking for something along the lines of lions and tigers and bears, oh my! It makes sense to look for the exotic when you’re tucked away in the heart of the United States, but we’re in love with the gorgeous Butterfly Gardens in the Memphis Zoo. Beautiful, awe-inducing and perfect for little ones, this exhibit is one for all ages and great for a family adventure. If you’re ever in Memphis, it’s a must-visit.
The Memphis Zoo can be found tucked away in the heart of Midtown Memphis, and it's home to over 3,500 animals. There are over 500 species represented throughout the zoo! Located in Overton Park, it's been serving the local community since 1906.
We understand the obsession with exotic animals, but the Butterfly Garden is well worth a visit, especially if you're traveling with little ones.
The best time to visit is August and early September, but visiting at any point during the year is highly recommended. Here's an interesting fact: butterflies are at the peak of their life cycle in late summer!
You'll find all sorts of literature describing the types of butterflies found in the exhibit. Whether you're looking for the ever-popular monarch butterfly or swallowtails, they're here and ready to meet you.
The interactive exhibit allows you to walk through a garden of flowers and wait for butterflies to land on your shoulders or finger, perhaps you can even find a butterfly camouflaging itself under a leaf.
If you have any questions, make sure to ask the zookeeper on duty. They're a treasure trove of information that make for a fully spherical experience at the zoo. You can even purchase plants for your home from the zoo spring plant sale that will attract butterflies in the same way.
