Waterfalls Near Me

What are some of the best hiking trails with waterfalls in Tennessee?

Tennessee is a lush and beautiful state with plenty of waterfalls to chase and admire; many of those falls feature wonderful trails leading to or from them, making Tennessee an excellent candidate for your next waterfall hike destination. Some of the best waterfall hikes in Tennessee include epic jewels like the hike to Cane Creek Cascades, within Fall Creek Falls State Park. Alternatively, if you prefer a bit of a challenge (the Cane Creek Cascades trail is more of a leisurely stroll than a hike), you can always opt to try the Virgin Falls Trail at the Virgin Falls State Natural Area. It’s a brisk 8.3-mile hike that’s much beloved by locals, so be sure to arrive early and enjoy with fewer crowds during the week. The Burgess Falls Trail is just over a mile in length and is located near Baxter. It leads to one of Tennessee’s most awe-inspiring waterfalls, so bring a camera!

How many waterfalls in Tennessee are there?

Hang on to your hat, because Tennessee appears to be home to more than 800 waterfalls. That’s right – there are almost 1000 falls to visit, giving you more than enough to do for, well, pretty much ever. Many of our more than 80 state parks contain one or more (usually more) waterfalls, and our state and National Forests do as well. Though many of the falls are small and most unremarkable (as far as waterfalls go, anyway), some are truly breathtaking; Fall Creek Falls is the tallest waterfall in the state, at an impressive 256 or more feet in height. It’s one of the most-visited waterfalls in Tennessee, and for pretty obvious reasons; after all, it’s pretty epic. Other waterfalls of note in Tennessee include Caney Creek Falls, Piney Falls, Great Falls, Twin Falls, and Burgess Falls, though the list does, obviously, continue for a great deal of time beyond those! Tennessee is one of the hands-down best states for nature lovers.
