The Magical River Walk In Tennessee That Will Transport You To Another World
Taking a walk along the river during the heavy, humid heat of summer is one of life’s simplest pleasures. A quiet breeze from the waterfront is perfectly accented by giggling little ones or an independent moment spent in self-reflection. Thankfully, all of Tennessee’s major cities are river cities themselves, and one of our favorite riverwalks amongst many is the meandering trail that crawls its way through the heart of Chattanooga.
Known as the Tennessee Riverwalk, this almost nine-mile trail is a point-to-point adventure that's easy for folks of all ages. The whole family can come, and the ease of the trail means that you can trek out and back at any point.
You'll have the chance to see the famed Walnut Street Bridge, a Chattanooga highlight, from the paved trail.
You can see here, as illustrated by AllTrails, the Tennessee Riverwalk stretches the solid length of Chattanooga on an easily traversed and paved trail by the Cumberland River.
Coolidge Park is located at the base of the Walnut Street Bridge, and it's a beautiful place to stop and enjoy a quick picnic or a snack in the sunshine.
The tiered staircase right at the foot of the Chattanooga Aquarium is a great place to set up shop if you're looking to spread out a quick lunchtime meal. There's a bike rental system in Chattanooga as well, so snag a two-wheeled counterpart if you'd rather not walk yourself.
The trail is well-lit, making it great for walking at all times of the day. Chattanooga has truly invested in a beautiful space that gives you great views of the river and local wildlife.
Does it get better than this?! Restaurants and nightlife are just a few minutes from the walkway itself, so make sure to head just a little deeper into the city to calm your growling stomach. There are also multiple bathroom stops along the trail, just in case nature calls.
If you have the chance, we'd highly recommend walking the Walnut Street Bridge. This, right here, is one of the most iconic spots in Chattanooga, and it gives you some of the best views of its home city.
