There’s Something Incredibly Unique About This One Hotel In Wyoming
When you first step foot in this hotel in Wyoming, it's like you've gone back in time to the days of the Old West. Here, you'll walk in the footsteps of notorious outlaws and others who were famous back in the day. Not only will you see the Old West as it really was but you will also get to feel what it was truly like living during one of the most notable times in history.
The Historic Occidental Hotel, located at 10 North Main Street in Buffalo, was founded in 1880 and is one of the most renowned hotels in Wyoming.
The hotel is decorated in elegant period style with antiques that play right into the historic authenticity. The beautiful embossed ceiling in the lobby is even the original.
The bar in the saloon is the original bar brought in on a wagon one hundred years ago. The ceiling in the saloon is the original and some of the chairs are the originals. Even the bullet holes in the saloon are originals.
Fully restored in 2007, the rooms and suites are individually named and decorated with antiques that are original to the Occidental Hotel.
The Virginian Restaurant in the hotel is named after the novel, "The Virginian", by Owen Wister. You can enjoy Buffalo steaks, prime rib, filet mignon and seafood in an authentic Old West setting.
The Occidental was visited by a lot of famous people. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid would ride to the Occidental from their hideout at the Hole-in-the-Wall.
Buffalo Bill Cody also enjoyed spending time here.
Calamity Jane who drove freight wagons on the Bozeman Trail would stop often at the hotel.
Presidents stayed here. Theodore Roosevelt stayed here and even has a suite named after him.
President Herbert Hoover was also a guest and had a suite named after him as well.
Apparently, this was a very inspirational place for famous authors to stay. Ernest Hemingway spent time at the hotel.
The author of "The Virginian", Owen Wister, spent a lot of time in the lobby and saloon and even based his characters on the cowboys and gunslingers that he observed at the hotel.
