Sleep In A Piece Of Wyoming History When You Stay In These Charming Homestead Cabins
As jam-packed with history as Wyoming is, what could be better than experiencing it firsthand?
That's exactly what you can do when you book a stay at the historic cabins at Colter Bay Village. Though it was opened to the public in the 1960s, most of the accommodations are literally a piece of history picked up, moved, and refurbished to allow the public to experience living in a homestead cabin.
Colter Bay Village is in the Grand Teton National Park.
It's along the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway.
It was J.D. Jr. himself who had the vision of creating a family vacation destination with historic lodging.
Mr. Rockefeller located 166 original homestead cabins from the 1800s and had them relocated to Colter Bay, creating a village of historic handcrafted cabins.
Naturally, the exteriors were preserved and the interiors were refurbished to modern standards. All the cabins have one room plus a bathroom (some share a bathroom between cabins) and offer a variety of sleeping options from twin beds to double beds and combinations of both.
In addition to the unique accommodations, Colter Bay is a beautiful place to stay and it offers endless activities. Of course you can do all sorts of boating on the bay including kayaking, canoeing, sailing, or take a scenic lake cruise.
There are guided lake fishing trips and, if you don't have a boat of your own, you can even rent boats at Colter Bay.
There are ranger talks and other opportunities to learn about the surrounding area.
Plus, with the breathtaking Wyoming outdoors all around, you can enjoy numerous outdoor activities such as wagon rides, horseback riding, hiking...
...and it's the perfect place for spotting wildlife.
Once you've experienced cabin life, you'll be spoiled for any other vacation.
