Spend The Night In An Inn That’s Inside An Actual Tobacco Warehouse Right Here In Wisconsin

The Tobacco Warehouse Inn in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, offers a unique stay with historic charm and modern amenities in the Driftless Area.

While Wisconsin will forever be known as the Dairy State, one of its earliest crops was something that literally goes up in smoke. Starting in the 1850s, Wisconsin farm county began producing a large amount of commercial tobacco, and a thriving industry developed across a large swath of the state. While the boom has passed, you can still live this chapter of history, if only for a night. The Tobacco Warehouse Inn is a gorgeous Wisconsin hotel. Here’s why you should make reservations.

The Tobacco Warehouse Inn is located in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin. It’s a village in Crawford County with a population of fewer than 600 people.

The village is in the heart of the Driftless Area of Wisconsin, a beautiful area of rolling hills. The Kickapoo River runs right through town.

The inn is tucked into the heart of town, close to the river. It’s the ideal base camp for exploring the region – you’ll find some great places for hiking, biking, and paddling nearby.

The inn is an incredible property that’s found a new life. It was built in the summer of 1923 right on the Viroqua branch of the Milwaukee Rail Road Line. It served as a tobacco-buying station, curing house, and shipping facility.

The building still retains its character from a century ago while offering all the amenities of a modern hotel. The rooms are equipped with smart TVs, Wi-Fi, and full kitchens.

You won’t mistake this property for a chain hotel. The building has some beautiful exposed bits of the original structure, including massive original wood beams and long iron poles. You can relax and dream of the past but be warned – the Tobacco Warehouse is no smoking!
