The Island Resort Hiding In Washington That’s Like Something From A Dream

We're incredibly fortunate to have the San Juan Islands as part of our beautiful state. And if you've spent any time exploring them, you know they're positively magical. San Juan Island is the most popular island in the group, meaning it isn't easy to find hidden gems. But somehow, Snug Harbor Resort in Washington has remained under the radar since the 1960s.

Snug Harbor Resort and Marina is located in Mitchell Bay on San Juan Island, where it has remained since it opened in the 1960s.

Mitchell Bay's history goes back much further. It was a prime location for the Native Americans in the area, who used it for harvesting their salmon, crab, clams, and oysters.

The property has been updated several times, most recently in 2014.

Erik and Tamara Nelson have owned the resort since 2011, and they've made some great new additions with more planned for the future.

Accommodations here consist of one and two-bedroom waterfront suites and cabins, all of which perfectly embody rustic elegance.

Most will sleep four comfortably, although some have the space for six (for a small additional fee).

The cabins and suites all offer views of Mitchell Bay, although the cabins have a bit more privacy.

They also have fully equipped kitchens in case you want to stay there and relax for your entire vacation (which you might).

Of course, if you do manage to leave your cabin, you'll be treated to a host of amenities.

The waterfront fitness center is the perfect place to start your day.

If you forgot something or you want to snag a souvenir, stop by the Snug Harbor Store.

You'll find everything from basic groceries like cheese and eggs to more novelty cooking items, like gourmet balsamic vinegar. And as you can imagine, the store is always stocked with S'mores supplies.

Mitchell Bay Coffee is the newest addition to the property, serving coffee roasted in the Skagit Valley.

And if the idea of a morning mocha isn't enough to get you out of bed, the fact that they serve fresh waffles and local pastries might help.

This magical resort is open all year, and rates vary from season to season.

Accommodations start at $279.00 and go up from there, depending on the season and how much space you need. But the amenities and the waterfront location make it well worth the splurge. It’s one of the best of the San Juan Island resorts!
