Lewis Mountain Campground Is A Little-Known Campground In Virginia Where No Reservation Is Required

Camping in Virginia is a pastime adored by many. Yet some of the state's most popular campgrounds can book out months in advance, seemingly leaving few opportunities to find a place to sleep under the stars. Fortunately, there are plenty of sites that operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. One of them is located in Shenandoah National Park, and it's quite a hidden gem. Here's more on Lewis Mountain Campground, a delightful place to camp in Virginia where no reservation is required.

Welcome to Lewis Mountain Campground! The smallest of the four campgrounds at Shenandoah National Park, it's a bit of a hidden gem.

You'll find the campground at mile 57.5 of Skyline Drive, centrally located near the park's most popular attractions. Big Meadows, for instance, is just seven miles away.

One thing that sets Lewis Mountain Campground apart from the rest is that it operates on a first-come, first-serve basis. This means that you can't make a reservation ahead of time.

Campers will also need to register themselves, following the regulations on the posted sign at the campground's entrance.

The campground features a total of 30 sites, and firewood, ice, and a camp store are open seasonally.

It really is the perfect spot for those looking for a more secluded, off-the-beaten-path campground option at Shenandoah.

Plus, it's the perfect home base for exploring all that the park has to offer. Imagine waking up and having these panoramic mountain views right at your doorstep!
