Virginia is brimming with historic buildings, many of which have been around for well over a few centuries. Staying inside a historic hotel in Virginia feels like stepping back in time a bit. One of our favorite places to do so is the Omni Homestead Resort. With roots dating back to the 1700s, this gorgeous property is one that attracts visitors from all over. Here's more on the most famous hotel in Virginia that's also one of the most historic places you'll ever sleep. (It may also be one of the most haunted places you'll ever sleep, although we've never personally encountered any ghosts!)
Welcome to the Omni Homestead Resort! A breathtaking property nestled in the mountains of Virginia, this iconic hotel has a history almost as impressive as the views.
The hotel dates back to 1766, when Thomas Bullitt first built on the property. This is considered the official founding of the Homestead, although it wasn't until 1832 that Dr. Thomas Goode established his famous European-style spa and water treatments.
Today, visitors from all over flock to Warm Springs for its beautiful scenery, luxurious accommodations, and endless recreational adventures.
At the heart of the hotel is the presence of hot springs, and guests today are invited to dip in thermal pools that are part of the spa.
The resort is also known for its extensive golf history. Countless tournaments have taken place here since the early 1900s.
If you're looking for a fun day trip excursion, we'd recommend checking out the newly-renovated Warm Springs Pools, formerly known as the Jefferson Pools. It's the perfect spot for a thermal soak!
Another fun activity that we'd recommend is a guided hike of the Cascades Gorge. You'll get a tour of several waterfalls, each one more breathtaking than the next.
One of the best parts about the Omni Homestead Resort is that it's truly an all-seasons place to visit. In the winter, skiing and tubing are popular activities. In fact, the slopes at the Homestead are the oldest in the state.
And while all seasons are lovely, you'll agree there's something magical about visiting the Homestead during the fall. The crisp mountain air lends itself to an unforgettable mountain getaway.
Of course, we've visited in the winter, too, and it's just as lovely. That's especially true if you can grab a seat by one of the fireplaces in the main lobby!
Before returning home, be sure you stop by Martha's Market for at least one of the hotel's famous apple cider donuts. Trust us -- they're incredible!
