The One Virginia Airbnb You Need to Book for Unforgettable Dark Sky Views

Calling all night owls! This Virginia Airbnb offers wide open skies, lay-flat lounge chairs, and telescopes, making it perfect for stargazing.

Stargazing is one of my favorite things to do in the fall and winter months. While summer stargazing is popular for those glorious Milky Way photos, I prefer the cooler temperatures and, more importantly, the fewer bugs that the cooler temperatures bring. Virginia has four official International Dark Sky Parks, making Virginia one of the best states on the East Coast for stargazing! If you’re up for spending a few nights enjoying Virginia’s dark skies, this Airbnb in Virginia is perfect for stargazing.

There are a few factors you need for stargazing. Some of them are out of your control (like cloud cover), but one thing you can control is your location. Having an unobstructed, clear view of the sky is a key factor for stargazing, and this stargazing cabin in Virginia is perfect.

The A-Frame cabin in Abingdon is sleek and modern, yet it still blends in with its natural surroundings. Its stunning views of the mountains and South Holston Lake make it an idyllic spot for stargazing.

A-frame cabins have the reputation of being on the small side, but this cabin is deceptively large. There are three bedrooms, six beds, and two baths. It can accommodate eight guests, and there’s plenty of space for everyone.

Designed for its surroundings, the large windows give you million-dollar views from just about every room in the house. There’s a game room filled with board games and toys for all ages, plus several smart TVs throughout the cabin. The WiFi is strong, so you can stream, game, or work without interruption.

Heading outside, you’ll notice one of the coolest additions to the house: the slide! I love it when a vacation rental adds a whimsical, quirky element to the property. I’m sure kids will thoroughly enjoy this, but you’ve got to admit it’s tempting for adults, too! There’s also a swing for even more fun.

The deck is where you’ll find a propane firepit, perfect for keeping warm while you wait for those night skies to take over. The views from the deck are pure perfection during the day, and at night you’ll have a front-row seat to a celestial show.

Guests who want to get a closer look at the stars and planets in the sky can use the telescope. The lay-flat lounge chairs are a game changer—anyone who has spent a night looking up at the stars will tell you that lying down is key to not waking up the next morning with a stiff neck.

To get the most out of your Virginia stargazing Airbnb experience, turn all the lights off and allow yourself about 20-30 minutes for your eyes to adjust. Don’t look at any bright screens (no scrolling on your phone!) and, if possible, use red lights to maintain your night vision.

Typically, fall and winter have fewer clouds at night, but Mother Nature tends to zig when you think she’ll zag. The more nights you can give yourself, the better! Three nights is perfect, and even better if you can time your visit around the new moon.

While you wait for nightfall, spend some time exploring the charming town of Abingdon! Known for its historic landmarks and outdoor adventures, there are plenty of things to do in Abingdon to keep you entertained.
