We're not sure it's ever been scientifically proven, but it sure seems like food tastes better at high elevations. If you want to do some research for yourself, head to Silver Fork Lodge in Big Cottonwood Canyon. You'll find a charming, old-fashioned restaurant with the tastiest comfort food you've ever tried.

Take a drive 11 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon, and you'll find Silver Fork Lodge & Restaurant. It's been in business since 1947, and it's a long-time favorite with skiers and locals.

Step inside, and you'll find a homey, warm dining room with a roaring fire in the fireplace during winter months.

In the spring, summer, and fall, dine on the deck, surrounded by pine trees. Check out the hummingbirds who visit their feeders all day long.

If you're on your way up the canyon to hit the slopes or go for a hike, fuel up with a hearty breakfast first. Silver Fork Lodge has all kinds of delicious options, but the corned beef hash with eggs is a favorite.

For lunch, you'll find plenty of tasty entrees, including hot sandwiches, and country specialities like Elmo's meatloaf, which is served with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy.

After a long day of skiing or hiking, nothing hits the spot like a perfectly-grilled steak. Silver Fork Lodge offers Certified Piedmontese beef, which is especially tender. The Canyon Pepper Steak is the most popular, but the Flatiron Steak and New York Strip are both excellent, too.

Pair your meal with a beer - there are several local craft beers on tap and more than a dozen domestic and imported beers by the bottle. You can also enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail with your meal.

Silver Fork Lodge is a popular spot for dining in the canyon, so be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially on weekends. It's worth it!

Visit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. Winter hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Silver Fork Lodge also offers seven comfortable rooms for overnight stays! Visit Silver Fork Lodge's website to see the full menu, or book your room.
