10 Airbnbs Straight Out of ‘The Holiday’ (That You Can Book in the U.S.)

These cottages are so lovely, you might just feel like you're Kate Winslet who just landed in the Cotswolds.

If you've ever seen The Holiday, then you already know that it's arguably one of the best modern-day Christmas movies. In addition to its star-studded cast, including Cameron Diaz, Jack Black, Jude Law, and Kate Winslet, the movie taps into our deep-rooted desire to get away from it all. In the movie, both leading characters abandon their ordinary routine to swap houses for the Christmas holiday; one character travels to the Cotswolds while the other ventures to LA. It's spontaneous, daring, and, like most holiday films, results in some unexpected magic.

Romance is certainly at play, though I'd argue that it's the idea of a new home for the holidays—especially the remote, off-the-grid Rosehill Cottage—that really makes this movie special. With that in mind, I've scoured Airbnb for some of the best "Holiday"-esque homes where you can get away from it all—if only for the holidays.

1. Historic Stone Cottage: Center Harbor, New Hampshire

The Lakes Region of New Hampshire has that same sense of tranquility you'll find in the Cotswolds. This darling stone cottage once operated as a 1920s gatekeeper's house, and today, it makes for the perfect cold-weather escape. It's perfect for two guests, and has one bedroom and one bathroom. It also has a sleeper couch to accommodate an extra guest.

2. Fairytale Storybook Cottage: Carmel, California

Built by Hugh Comstock in 1928, the Fairytale Storybook Cottage has that old-world, classic cottage feel. Upon arrival, you'll walk through ancient oaks and through French doors into your home away from home. Antique furniture and cabinetry will make you feel as though you're smack dab in the middle of the English countryside, though in reality, you'll be just one block away from downtown Carmel. This one-bedroom home is perfect for a solo traveler or a couple. Can't you just imagine sipping tea or hot cocoa by the fireplace?

3. The Stone Cottage at Bluemont Vineyard: Bluemont, Virginia

With its stone walls built from local rock, this picture-perfect stone cottage at Bluemont Vineyard is a dream. Although it's a newer build, you'll still feel transported to a simpler time. Sipping wine, lounging on the porch, cozied up with a good book—there's no wrong way to spend your idle time here. You'll be staying just 10 minutes from local dining and shopping, plus there are great opportunities for hiking nearby. This secluded stone cottage nestled among the vines can sleep up to two guests.

4. The Queens Cottage: Saugerties, New York

Given its fresh, modern re-invention, you won't quite believe this stone cottage was built 275 years ago. Queen Anne of the Netherlands gifted the parcel of land where you'll find the aptly-named Queen's Cottage today, right on the edge of the village of Saugerties and just half a mile away from Falling Waters Preserve. The cottage can accommodate up to six guests, with three bedrooms and one-and-a-half baths.

5. Classic Stockbridge Cottage: Stockbridge, Massachusetts

Pack your bags and escape to the Southern Berkshires, where a one-of-a-kind cottage awaits you. Complete with a wood-burning fireplace and library, this four-bedroom, four-bath home once belonged to a cartographer for the New York Times. The amenities have been totally updated, yet it still retains its original charm. Even though you'll be staying in a residential neighborhood, you'll feel completely secluded.

6. Elegant Stone Cottage: Pikes Peak, Colorado

"Comfy elegance" is how this picturesque stone cottage tucked away at the base of Pikes Peak is described. If the photos are any indication of just how lovely a home this is, you're in for a swoon-worthy stay. Just like the iconic Cotswolds home in The Holiday, this space is cozy with a dash of whimsy. You'll enjoy tons of natural light thanks to all the windows, plus warm details like wood trim, hardwood floors, and a stone fireplace.

7. Historic Grove Stone Cottage: Asheville, North Carolina

There's so much to love about Asheville, and a stay at the Grove Stone Cottage will prove to be the perfect home base for all your Western North Carolina adventures. If the style looks familiar—beyond being a wonderful contender for a Holiday home—it was designed by EW Grove of the Grove Park Inn. The space is designed for four guests, and there are two bedrooms and one-and-a-half baths. Guests use descriptors like elegant, cozy, and lovely to describe this space (and it's not hard to see why).

8. Private Stone Cottage: Buckingham, Pennsylvania

Nestled on the colonial Buckingham Hills Estate circa 1793, this private stone cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway. With one bedroom and one bath, it's the perfect space to disconnect and recharge. Details like the wood-burning stone fireplace and cozy seating give it that classic Cotswolds cottage appeal. No wonder it's one of the most loved Airbnbs in the region.

9. The Cobblestone Cottage: Bellingham, Washington

Amidst Ferndale’s rolling fields and open pastures is a 1930s cabin that's been completely renovated. On the outside, you'll be greeted with a classic stone exterior, but as you step inside, you'll find yourself immersed in the design. You'll discover hints of European details, bringing the English countryside to mind. It's a world unto itself, but if you'd like to explore the area some, you'll find Birch Bay and Vancouver, British Columbia nearby. We'll leave you with a line from the house description: "Come stay awhile. Let the stone, the light, and the landscape work their magic."

10. Romantic Stone Cottage: Leesburg, Virginia

On the border of a state park, near meandering walking trails, you'll discover one of Northern Virginia's most hidden-away stays: the Romantic Stone Cottage. With one bedroom and one bathroom, it's perfect for a solo traveler or a pair. Although it was originally built around 1870, the interior has undergone a total renovation—just wait until you see the king-sized bed made from reclaimed wood.
