You Can Stay in an Enchanting Castle Airbnb in Texas

This castle in Texas transports you to Medieval times with its turrets, drawbridge, and moat.

Did you know that you can stay in an enchanting overnight castle in Texas for less than the cost of most hotel rooms? Newman's Castle, tucked away in the rolling countryside just outside of Bellville, Texas, is a tourist attraction built by Mike Newman in 1998, inspired by his travels across Europe. With a moat, a working drawbridge, turrets, a perimeter wall, and other traditional features, the castle is impressively realistic.

While it's most commonly used as an event venue and for tours, the castle (well, one of its rooms, anyway) is also available on Airbnb. I'm running to book a night or two in one of the most whimsical places in Texas!

The room will instantly transport you back to Medieval times with its four-poster queen bed, stone walls, tapestries, and rustic decor. Flickering candle sconces set the mood, and arched windows overlook the castle grounds. You'll have private access to an attached half-bath. There's no kitchen, so you'll have to go into town for food (but the hosts provide a coffee maker — priorities!).

You're welcome to explore the rest of the castle during your stay. The dining room is set for a lavish feast, and long hallways twist and turn like a maze, providing endless opportunities for adventure. Of course, no castle would be complete without a dungeon — what you find there may surprise you!

The interior features several other rooms, including a chapel where couples can get married. Outside, the courtyard is a majestic scene, with stately columns and archways that make you feel far from Texas. The castle sits on 20 acres of lush, hilly landscape, with a pond and a forest on the property. Walk across the drawbridge or climb up into the turrets to enjoy panoramic views of the surroundings. On clear days, you can see for miles into the distance (the perfect vantage point for spotting an invading army!).

When you're not running through the castle halls, take time to relax in your room. It's the perfect environment for curling up with a book and escaping the real world, if only for a night. There's no TV or Wifi, so you're forced to unplug (unless you have a hotspot, but I try not to use mine in situations like this unless I absolutely have to). Plus, ditching the technology makes for a more authentic experience because you can truly pretend like you've traveled back to the Dark Ages.

Please note that you may encounter other people on the castle grounds since it is a tourist attraction. A host will be nearby to answer any questions you may have about the property or the area. If you're ready to stay in an enchanting overnight castle in Texas, or you'd like to inquire about the current nightly rate or availability, please visit the property's Airbnb listing.

Have you ever experienced this royal retreat? What are your favorite unique stays in Texas? Mike Newman also operates Newman's Bakery, located just down the road from the castle, so be sure to stop by and grab some homemade pastries.
