The Historic Texas Hotel That Will Transport You Back In Time

Hotel Emma in San Antonio's Pearl neighborhood combines luxury with historic charm, offering unique accommodations and amenities.

I love staying in historic hotels in Texas. They harken back to the good old days when originality and creativity mattered more than getting buildings up and operational as quickly as possible to turn a profit. If you share my sentiment, then you'll adore the Hotel Emma. The best hotel in San Antonio, Texas, it's the centerpiece of the Historic Pearl neighborhood, which offers world-class shopping, dining, and year-round events.

Luxury meets history at the Hotel Emma, the crown jewel of San Antonio's iconic Pearl neighborhood.

Overlooking the beautiful San Antonio River, the 146-room hotel was a brewhouse in the 19th century, and despite boasting all of the modern amenities one could possibly desire, its rustic charm still remains.

As soon as you step inside, the antique furnishings and ornate décor will transport you back to the old, fancy hotels of America's past.

From the lobby all the way down to the cellar, nods to the hotel's past life as a brewery can be seen all throughout the building. Unlike the cookie-cutter hotels that are becoming the norm in the modern era, the Hotel Emma is full of character.

When it comes to the accommodations, there's something for everyone, from standard rooms to two-story penthouse suites.

The design is industrial with a South Texas flair, and amenities include an in-room icebox, plush robes and linens, a complimentary margarita, and more (amenities vary based on which type of room you choose). Some of the rooms are even located in the original brewhouse tower - I'm a huge history buff, so that's definitely where I would stay.

Pamper yourself with a relaxing soak in your tub (perhaps while sipping that aforementioned margarita?), or head to Hiatus Spa for a relaxing massage, full-body wrap, facial, or manicure/pedicure.

The spa also offers in-room services! Just one of many reasons why the Hotel Emma is one of the best hotels in Texas.

The pool is sure to be one of the highlights of your stay at the Hotel Emma.

Complete with a poolside bar (housed in a 1960s Pearl beer delivery truck) that offers handcrafted cocktails and light bites, this refreshing oasis is calling your name.

Hotel Emma also offers several great dining options for any time of day.

Indulge in elevated American fare at Supper, enjoy fine prepared foods at LARDER, or sip drinks and snack on sophisticated small plates at Sternewirth.

One of the best things about staying at the Hotel Emma is that the action is all around you. From year-round events to world-class shopping and dining options, The Historic Pearl is a bucket-list-worthy destination in and of itself.

Embark on a leisurely stroll and discover everything from clothing boutiques to independent bookstores to shops selling artisan trinkets and treasures.

You'll also find over two dozen restaurants, bars, and coffee shops here. Whether you're in the mood for French pastries, local ice cream, pizza, or Latin fare, if you're craving it, The Historic Pearl probably has it.

There is also a weekend market featuring vendors who sell everything from fresh meat and produce to pottery. Come peruse the offerings while live performers serenade you with their silky smooth voices. It's a can't-miss event!
