A Spectacular Spot In South Dakota Where You Can Camp Right On The Beach
Lewis and Clark Recreation Area in South Dakota offers beachside camping with RV and tent sites, cabins, and various outdoor activities.
We often write about all of South Dakota's beautiful places, and encourage you to get out and explore them. What's a better way to explore than by camping in the wilderness? How about camping right by a beach? Take a look!
Lewis and Clark Recreation Area is in Yankton near the South Dakota/Nebraska border. It's located right on Lewis and Clark Lake.
There are five campgrounds along the lakeshore, offering RV and tent sites as well as cabins. Most sites are very close to the beach.
For instance, Cabin M at East Midway Campground, is just steps away a glorious stretch of sand.
From your front door to the beach...in 30 seconds! And, you'll even find some shady trees on the beach, which are welcome on a hot, summer day.
The cabins at Gavin's Point are also very close to the beach.
The campground is nice and shady, with plenty of green grass.
The cabins are the same in each campground. Each offers air conditioning, electricity and heating, a dining table with benches and bunks for four to five people. Outside, you'll find a fire pit and picnic table.
While you're here, you'll find plenty to do. Take a stroll or bike ride along the lake...
Go for a swim...
...and of course, play or relax on the beach!
