South Carolina’s Most Visited State Park Has A Beachside Campground That’s The Most Beautiful Around
Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina has recovered from storm damage and offers year-round camping with beachfront views and a historic lighthouse.
South Carolina's most visited state park, Hunting Island State Park located just outside of Beaufort, has sustained quite a bit of damage from storms over the last few years, but the park is back in grand fashion. It's easy to see why visitors and locals alike remain loyal to this coveted stretch of beach just off the coast. For the most part, the park has bounced back from the major upheavals found in the wake of the various storms. And the campground is among the amenities that you'll want to check out.
In spite of the damage, all seems to be right again with the campground located on the northern end of the island.
The sites are located within two beachfront loops, and number a total of 102 spots, each with electric and water hookups.
The storms may have trimmed out some of the trees, but the upside is: you may have an even better view of the ocean!
Two access points carry you over to the beach where you can spend the day relaxing and enjoying the sound of the waves.
The campground here on the northern end of the island is a comfortable distance and just far enough removed from the state park's main attraction. If the tide is right, you can walk down the beach and mingle among the visitors vying for the opportunity to get just the right photo.
The Hunting Island Light is the only publicly accessible lighthouse in South Carolina. For a mere $2, you can climb to the top for an experience — and a view — like no other in the Palmetto State.
The views from the top of the lighthouse are staggering. The campground at Hunting Island State Park is open year-round. The park also maintains another group camping spot on the island. This campsite is primitive and suitable for groups of up to 100 people.
Hunting Island State Park is located at 2555 Sea Island Parkway, Hunting Island, SC 29920. The park and campground are open year-round. Some campsites can accommodate RV's from 28 - 40 feet. Camping reservations are a must and a two-night minimum is required, unless otherwise stated on the official website for South Carolina State Parks.
