A night under the stars just seems so - romantic? Adventurous? Fill in the blank since we all have our own reasons for seeking the tranquility of nature when we camp. But, sometimes camping isn't so glamorous. Not all of us enjoy sleeping on the hard ground, fighting off mosquitoes, and wondering just where those strange nighttime noises are coming from. Luckily for us, some parks in Pennsylvania offer yurts for overnight adventures that allow us to enjoy all the comforts of home while camping.
Tucked in Indiana County, Yellow Creek State Park in Pennsylvania stretches across near 3,000 acres and boasts the 720-acre Yellow Creek Lake.
Discover plenty to do: From kayaking and mountain biking to hiking and swimming. In fact, Yellow Creek State Park offers so much to do that you might just want to spend a night or two, so you can experience all of it.
Of course, the park offers the traditional ways to camp, including in a cottage.
But, for a truly unique experience, reserve one of the spacious yurts that offers just about all the comforts of home. (You will, however, have to leave your yurt to use the nearby bathrooms.)
Each of the four yurts sleeps up to five people in cozy bunk beds. And, each offers such amenities as a stove, refrigerator, microwave, and electric heat and outlets.
Or, soak up the golden sunshine by cooking over the fire ring. Then, eat at the picnic table in front of your yurt.
Embrace the privacy of your yurt before exploring the rest of the park. Watch the kids play at the playground.
Or, during the summer months, grab a spot along the beach and relax in the cool lake water. Yellow Creek State Park also offers five miles of hiking (and biking) trails.
Yellow Creek State Park is located at 170 PA-259, Penn Run, PA 15765.
