A Scenic Mountain Escape Near Chickasaw National Recreation Area

While Oklahoma has no bona fide national parks, it has several sites managed by the National Park Service. Chickasaw National Recreation Area is arguably the most famous of them all, nestled in the foothills of the Arbuckle Mountains and overflowing with natural beauty.

But next time you visit the park, I recommend staying at this perfect Airbnb to serve as your base camp. This cabin near Chickasaw National Recreation Area is blissfully secluded, tucked away in the mountains, and boasts incredible views from an elevated deck.

Located in Davis, this rustic and charming cabin is only about 10 minutes from Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Turner Falls Park, which houses Oklahoma’s tallest waterfall, is also within walking distance. The cabin has one bedroom, but it sleeps four to five guests thanks to a queen-size fold-out sofa bed in the living room. 

There’s a full kitchen, a full bath, a small dining area, and a living room with a high-definition flat-screen TV. But don’t get too comfortable because, chances are, you’re here to spend most of your time exploring the great outdoors.

Speaking of exploring, Chickasaw National Recreation Area is a nature lover's paradise. Water is the main attraction, with pristine lakes, rivers, and streams running through the park. Lake of the Arbuckles is the largest body of water in the recreation area, offering boating, fishing, swimming, and picnicking opportunities. There are several other gorgeous swimming spots, as well as over 20 miles of hiking trails to embark on.

After a day of adventures, return to the cabin and cook dinner on the charcoal BBQ grill on the deck. Then, you can make a fire in the fire pit and watch the sun descend behind the mountains. If that isn’t bliss, I don’t know what is.

Since the cabin is in Davis, which happens to be one of our favorite small towns in Oklahoma, you can spend some time checking out everything the quaint community has to offer. Try fried pies and delicious handcrafted chocolates, ride a zipline, and explore hidden caves and an abandoned castle. There's never a dull moment in Davis.
