Spend The Night Under A Tipi At This Unique North Dakota Campground
Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park in North Dakota offers unique camping experiences, including staying in historic tipis.
One of the most unique and fun state parks in North Dakota is one that is full of history. From a historic fort to a recreation of a centuries-old Native American village, there is so much to see and do here. But did you know they also have tipis that you can stay in? Take camping to a different level by staying at this unique campground.
Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is just outside of Mandan and Bismarck, North Dakota and is full of history.
The On-A-Slant Village is a fascinating place to visit. It will allow you to explore the earth lodges that used to fill this area with hundreds of people living in them long before the settlers came to this state.
Though you can't stay overnight in one of the earth lodges, you can stay in a tipi if you'd like!
The park has lots of camping space available for tents, RVs and campers, and it also has two tipis available to reserve for camping.
The two tipis are named after the two rivers that the park is next to, the Missouri River and the Heart River. Each one has enough space for six people with cots, a fire ring, inside table, and outside picnic table available.
While you're not sleeping under one of the tipis, you can explore the park and all it has to offer. From the beautiful natural areas to the historic village, fort buildings, and Custer's House, there is so much to see!
You can even take a trolley ride around the park to see it all - it's the only trolley ride in North Dakota. How amazing is that? Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is truly one-of-a-kind and perfect for a weekend destination!
The tipis in Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park are available through reservation only. They are generally available through the last Sunday in September. For more information and how to reserve one or other campsites at the park, click here.
Even if you don't stay in one of the tipis, a day trip to this park is a must-do for everyone in North Dakota. The On-A-Slant Village mentioned earlier is especially awesome; check it out!
