Embrace The Chill More Ways Than One At This Cozy Winter Getaway in New Mexico

When it comes to winter getaways in New Mexico, cabins have a special place in my heart. Nothing compares to cozying up by a warm fireplace with a mug of hot cocoa and a good book while the snow falls outside. If you find yourself craving a similar kind of vacation this time of year, I’ve found the perfect Airbnb. This spacious cabin is located in the most magical setting, making it ideal for a cold-weather stay.

Despite its name, the Noisy River Cabin actually couldn’t be quieter or more peaceful. Situated in Ruidoso’s historic Upper Canyon, this rustic cabin sits on over 100 feet of river frontage and is surrounded by trees and wildlife, yet it’s still just a stone’s throw away from downtown. The property was built in the 1950s, but it’s since been renovated to include just the right amount of modernity  — including a wide range of creature comforts like updated appliances. 

Up to six guests can sleep in the cabin’s three bedrooms. The primary bedroom is on the first floor, and the other two are on a separate level. Each floor also has its own bathroom. Vaulted ceilings make room for plenty of windows that look out on the snow-covered woodland scenery, and if you listen closely, you can hear the rhythmic trickle of water from the gently flowing river. There’s also an indoor fireplace perfect for snuggling up next to on a cold winter day.

The decor is very much reminiscent of a mountain lodge but with a charming Southwest flair. Guests will find the kitchen stocked with pots and pans, dishes, silverware, baking sheets, and even barbecue utensils, plus a coffee machine, blender, toaster, and all the other basic appliances.

My favorite part of the cabin is its spacious outdoor area. The backyard features a hot tub, a BBQ grill, a hammock, and comfortable patio furniture for outdoor dining. Take your morning coffee or tea out on the deck to warm up as you watch deer, horses, and elk frolic in the woods under the rising sun. At night, a soothing soak in the hot tub is the perfect bedtime ritual — along with some more fireside cozy time, of course.
