Book A Stay At One Of These 7 Eco-Friendly Vacation Rentals In New Mexico
While Earth Day is celebrated for one day in April each year, I am a firm believer that Earth Day is every day. While there are many ways to be good stewards of our planet, one way is to stay in an eco-friendly hotel or vacation rental. Many of the eco-friendly Airbnbs in New Mexico I found are built with sustainability in mind and are found close to nature. Would you stay in one of these places?
1. La Chihuahua Casita, Santa Fe
Located in the high desert on 2.5 acres, this earth-friendly 420-square-foot casita shares the land with other guest casitas. This small home is a cozy space with pine ceilings and recycled carpeting, and up to two guests may be accommodated. It, along with the other homes on the property, is powered by solar. Rainwater is also collected for watering the gardens. With shared outdoor spaces, you'll be able to socialize with other guests. There's a natural swimming pool, trails, greenhouses, and gardens on the property as well. And while you'll feel as though you're staying in a very remote area of New Mexico, it's only a 10-minute drive to Santa Fe Plaza.

Sitting on 40 acres, this one-bedroom house has a full bath, a half bath, a living room area, and a kitchen with a dining area. It also uses solar power. Spend time exploring the surrounding wilderness or head into the nearby town of Madrid. The choice is yours!

On the property is a greenhouse with banana trees and grape vines as well as birds and turtles. There's also a fish pond. 5. Taos Rio Eco Retreat, Taos
Surrounded by a grove of cottonwoods and situated by the Taos River, this eco-retreat boasts two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a hot tub. As this home is in an ecologically sensitive area, certain green efforts are practiced including the way it was green-built and has dual-flush toilets for water conservation. This is quite a peaceful place to stay and there's even a meditation hut on the property for you to use.
