Believe it or not, the structure was originally built back in 1878. At the time, it operated as a boarding house for Virginia City's early miners. Over 140 years later, it still retains its brick and stone charm along with its storied past.
Visitors are drawn to Sugarloaf Mountain Motel for its enchanting atmosphere, and it's easy to see why. Boasting twelve rooms which have each been decorated with a unique style, this motel is a perfectly cozy location to spend the night in one of Nevada's most historic towns.
If anything, staying here is like experience a piece of living Nevada history. Each room contains the original brick, rock, mortar, and iron windows from the boarding house's early days. And you may just come across a ghost from the early days as well!
Guests who have stayed at the haunted motel have claimed to witness ghosts, dressed in 19th-century garb, roaming the motel grounds. Some people have even reported the unexplained sounds of heavy breathing, footsteps, and laughter.
Additionally, digital alarm clocks seem to not work on the motel's premises, and people have witnessed the random opening and closing of doors in their rooms. Although none of the 'spirits' seem sinister, it's definitely enough to raise the hair on the back of your neck.
