This Michigan Lighthouse Offers a Dreamy Overnight Stay
If you've ever wanted to be a lighthouse keeper, or even just sleep in a lighthouse, you're in luck: this incredible stay in Michigan is something from a dream.
Have you ever wanted to sleep in a lighthouse? Me, too. I know it may be a little niche and not exactly common, but you might be surprised at how many folks out there just get us. Lighthouses are beautiful, historic, and incredibly fascinating, and the opportunity to spend the night at one is amazing. Enter Big Bay Point Lighthouse, a photogenic lighthouse located in Big Bay, Michigan, right up on the shores of Lake Superior. It's not just a historic lighthouse: It's been converted into a bed and breakfast, and it's 100 percent worth experiencing.
The guest rooms at Big Bay Point Lighthouse are located on the first and second floors, and all of them offer some truly jaw-dropping views. You can choose from a number of amazing options, all of which offer plenty of rest and relaxation with a twist: They're all within a functioning lighthouse.
Watching the sunrises - and sunsets - on Lake Superior is a special privilege, and while you're staying here, you get easy access to both. Not terribly far from the lighthouse is the Serenity Massage Hut, where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the lake while receiving a world-class massage. Couple's massages are also available!
If you're anything like me and you love the water, you can't go wrong with simply sitting outside the inn and observing the beauty of the lake. Lake Superior is enormous - the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area - and the views of it from the lighthouse are utterly jaw-dropping, like something out of a Thomas Kinkade painting.
Never let anyone tell you you can't have a beach day in the Midwest; the Great Lakes are proof of this. There are dozens of amazing lake beaches in Michigan that are sure to quiet the soul, offering incredible views and wonderful opportunities for a little rest and relaxation.
Personally, I'll have a hard time leaving the peninsula and the lighthouse, but if you feel like wandering, no worries - there are tons of amazingly photogenic places nearby to explore and fall in love with, like Van Riper State Park. Hiking opportunities abound, and what better way to explore the woods nearby than on foot?
Once you're tired and ready to retire, return to the lighthouse.
