This Massachusetts Hotel Is Among The Most Haunted Places In The Nation

When there seems to be a different historic landmark on every corner, it’s no wonder that Massachusetts has its fair share of ghost stories and haunted houses. However, if you’re looking to explore a spot where the spooks seem to be particularly active, head to the Omni Park House Hotel in Boston.

This hotel is as historic as they come, and the guests and ghosts here include the rich and famous.

Stephen King’s famous short story (and the subsequent movie) "1408" are supposedly based on the author’s own experience staying in Room 303.

In fact, the hotel has since turned that room into a storage closet for undisclosed reasons. And you guessed it – the room is on the third floor.

Charles Dickens himself was a guest at the Omni Parker House. He stayed on the third floor, which may explain why the elevators have a tendency to return to that floor without being called.

Or maybe it’s because famous actress Charlotte Cushman died of pneumonia on that floor.

The original owner, Harvey Parker, purportedly roams the halls of the Omni. Some report being given directions around the hotel by a gentleman in a formal suit, only to have their guide disappear moments later.

And the mirror on the mezzanine level is said to reflect the faces of those who have died in the hotel.

Of course, ghosts aren’t the only thing that the Omni Park House is famous for. It’s actually the birthplace of Massachusetts’ state dessert: the Boston Creme Pie.

Plus, John Wilkes Booth stayed at the hotel eight days before assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. He was seen practicing his shot at a firing range near the hotel during his stay.
