Just outside of Lafayette in the small city of Broussard lies one of the most delicious hidden gems in Lafayette Parish.
What started out as a humble snowball stand in 1932 has grown over the decades to become one of the most popular neighborhood restaurants in town.
Hulo “Poor Boy” Landry expanded his snowball business in the early ’30s after developing an allergy to flour, so be started making hamburgers.
Over time, the menu expanded to include seafood and steak options. Though locations have changed, it’s been a family run business ever since. It even opened up a second restaurant, Little River Inn which has been around since 1988.
The current Poor Boy’s has been at its current location since 1977.
It’s a family-friendly restaurant that’s perfect for birthday celebrations, family dinners, reunions, and parties of all kinds yet casual enough to be ideal for a simple evening out with loved ones.
The menu features some of the most delicious food in Acadiana.
And you’ll have plenty of options to choose from, so there’s something for everyone!
For starters, be sure to order a plate of Cajun Crab Fingers.
These crab claws are marinated in house-made dressing and are a great option for the table to share.
Next up, you’ll want to get some of the famous gumbo.
Poor Boy's family recipes have been handed down from generation to generation, much like many Cajun family foods. Chef Nelson’s chicken & andouille gumbo is practically perfect in every way, and the seafood gumbo is chock-fill of jumbo lump crab meat and shrimp.
The hardest part will be deciding on your entree.
Fried seafood platters, crawfish étouffée, fresh fish and oysters all pepper the menu. It’s a seafood lover’s paradise!
