The Oldest Campground In Florida Has Made Summertime More Magical Since 1931

Highlands Hammock offers a historic and diverse camping experience in Florida's untouched nature.

It’s only right that when summertime rolls around, the idea of spending the weekend outside in nature is abundant. We’re lucky to live in a state that allows for camping all year long, but sometimes sticking to a summer campout schedule is most rewarding. Just imagine the lightning bugs illuminating the sky, the sound of nature lulling you to sleep, and the soft smell of a campfire in the distance.

Right inside the 9,000-acre park known as Highlands Hammock, you’ll find a wonderful campsite that is one of the oldest in Florida.

What was established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corp, still brings visitors from all over to enjoy some of the untouched aspects of Florida nature.

You’ll even find the Civilian Conservation Corp Museum on site, allowing visitors to take a glimpse back into the history of the area.

The lush and fascinatingly diverse landscape is what truly makes the area and the camping experience entirely worth it.

Spend the afternoon wandering through the virgin hardwood forests with nine different nature trails at your disposal.

Then when you’re tuckered out from exploring the natural surroundings, you can set up shop in the historic and beautiful campground inside the park.

Whether you’re in an RV or you would rather a more primitive site, you have your pick.

Open year-round, this spectacular family-friendly park has nearly 150 different spots to choose from.

Set up a tent for the weekend and explore one of the oldest and most well-preserved hidden gem campgrounds in the entire state.
