Chatfield State Park is a 3,895-acre state park in Denver's southwest suburbs. It was established in 1975 and it welcomes over 2 million visitors per year.

This state park is on the shores of Chatfield Reservoir, a lake with 1,423 acres of surface area. This giant lake offers dozens of recreational opportunities and draws a wide variety of wildlife to the area. All of these factors make Chatfield State Park a fantastic place to camp!

There's so much to do in this park. You can walk through the woods and check out beautiful sights like this one.

You can head out in a kayak or on a paddleboard an explore the waterways. If you don't have one, you can rent them in the park.

You can take your own boat out on the reservoir or rent one at the marina and enjoy a day on the water with your friends or family.

You can fish from one of the reservoir's beaches. You might catch rainbow trout, walleye, bluegill, yellow perch, channel catfish, or small mouth bass.

Horseback riding is another popular activity in the park.

You might also fish from a boat. Swimming from the boat or from the park's swim beach is also permitted.

You'll find lots of wildlife in Chatfield State Park, too. Over 300 bird species have been found in the park. Some are resident birds; others are just passing through.

The Audubon Society of Greater Denver runs a nature center in the park. It offers classes, workshops, and lectures that you might attend during your stay.

Other animals live in the park, too. Whitetail deer, mule deer, coyote, red fox, cottontail rabbit, prairie dogs, and weasels are all commonly spotted at Chatfield.

One of the coolest and most unique things about Chatfield State Park is the model airplane field. Model airplane enthusiasts come from all over to fly their craft here. You'll love watching them speed through the sky!

Best of all, though, Chatfield State Park has incredible views of the foothills. The sunsets in the park are spectacular.

The campground at Chatfield State Park is quite large. There are four campjng areas with 197 total sites; 12 are ADA accessible. There are several group sites, too.

All sites come with picnic tables and grills and are within walking distance of the lake.

Camping with full hookups for RVs is available from April to October. There are electric sites and tent sites available all year.

You'll also be glad to know that this campground offers coin laundry and showers for its guests as well.

You'll love relaxing at your campsite in this park. The sites are spacious and well-maintained and they are all surrounded by native grass.

All sites require a reservation. On weekends in the summer, you will likely need to book a bit in advance, but often, you can book ahead on the same day you plan to arrive.

Chatfield State Park is, without a doubt, one of the very best state parks in Colorado, and the campground is one of the best in the state as well.
