Most People Have No Idea This Abandoned Art Moderne Hotel In Arkansas Even Exists

The Mountainaire Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is an abandoned historic site known for its unique Art Moderne architecture and intriguing past.

Have you heard the rumors that some abandoned places in Hot Springs were playgrounds for gamblers and gangsters alike? One of these hotspots was the Mountainaire Hotel Historic District, which consisted of the twin Art Moderne stylish hotel. Now abandoned for nearly 30 years, these deserted towers are hiding secrets that will never come to light. Known for its unique architecture, this abandoned hotel in Arkansas still attracts curious visitors from the area. Let’s explore the Mountainaire Hotel and marvel at its gorgeous architecture.

Located at 1100 Park Avenue in Hot Springs, the Mountainaire Hotel was once a hub for the big money hustlers in Arkansas.

Built in 1947 by Alvin Albinson, who moved to Arkansas to take advantage of the rising tourism industry, the hub attracted visitors from all over the region.

Due to the popularity of the area, Albinson envisioned constructing a complex with five hotels.

Unfortunately, after gambling became illegal in Arkansas, and the tourism influx deteriorated, less and less guests checked into the hotel.

Consequently, the hotel closed its doors, and the buildings were then transferred to Albinson’s son. He then converted the towers into apartments and later a nursing home.

Sadly, neither venture succeeded, and the buildings have remained abandoned since the mid-nineties.

Today, the buildings are sprinkled with graffiti from visitors who remain curious about the hotel's past.

You’ll also find beautiful artwork from an exhibition held in 2011.

Though the property has been unmaintained for about 30 years, the unique architectural style of the buildings still remains a significant part of the Hot Springs hotel district.

Therefore, the property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in February of 2004.

And the good news is, the Art Moderne design buildings are still attractive to potential buyers.

Recently, it was sold in 2016. Who knows what will happen to these buildings. But hopefully once restored, the towers will bring back some life, laughter, and love to the Mountainaire Hotel Historic District.
