Pack Your Sweater for a Cozy Cabin Autumn Escape in Arizona

Here are five exceptional options for a fall getaway in the Grand Canyon State.

A break from the heat is almost upon us, and I want nothing more than to wear sweaters and boots and play outside. Summer is an extra-long season for many of us around Arizona, so when fall arrives, we welcome it with open and loving arms. One of my favorite ways to ring in the season is a getaway somewhere up north, perhaps rent a cozy cabin surrounded by woods and, hopefully, see some fall colors. If you'd like to do the same, pack your sweater for a cozy cabin escape in Arizona this autumn. Here are five exceptional options for a fall getaway in the Grand Canyon State:

1. The Hygge Hideaway - Prescott

Have you ever experienced hygge? This Danish word implies coziness, comfort, and well-being, and that's what you can have when you spend time at The Hygge Hideaway. Tucked away in the woods of Prescott, this two-bedroom, one-bath home for up to five guests is as cozy as a warm blanket on a chilly fall day. Inside is a wood-burning fireplace to cuddle up in front of, or head outdoors with your crew and swap stories around the fire pit. There's even a barrel sauna for some self-care during your stay.

While it's tempting to just stay at the cabin and hide away, downtown Prescott isn't too far away if you want to peruse the antique and thrift shops, grab a coffee and brunch at Bear & Dragon Cafe, or enjoy an evening of drinks at any number of saloons on Whiskey Row. You may also want to time your visit to Prescott to coincide with the appearance of fall colors.

2. Sunflower Shanty - Overgaard

The Sunflower Shanty is a charming little two-story loft cabin featuring a primary bedroom with a queen bed on the first floor and two twin beds in the upstairs loft. Lighting a fire in the gas fireplace will give you that extra sense of coziness when you turn in for the night. During the day, you may want to spend some time breathing in the fresh mountain air of Overgaard from the front porch or go hiking in the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. A lovely fall escape awaits at The Sunflower Shanty!

3. Basecamp Cabin - Flagstaff

Charmingly rustic on the outside with its log cabin appearance, the rustic nature continues inside the Basecamp Cabin. Featuring wood flooring, wood walls, and a wood ceiling, along with wood and leather furnishings, and a wood stove fireplace, you can't get any cozier than this! Up to two dogs are allowed at this forest escape, which has a fenced-in backyard. There's also a dedicated workspace and strong WiFi if you need a quiet spot for your work-from-home gig.

Located several miles south of downtown Flagstaff, stay at the cabin for the duration of your visit or drive into town and discover an array of breweries, restaurants, and local shops. You can also take a haunted tour, or head up to Snowbowl for a hike along the Aspen Loop Trail during peak fall foliage season — it's simply magical!

4. Tranquil Retreat - Munds Park

Set among the Ponderosa pines of Munds Park, the spacious Tranquil Retreat is a completely renovated cabin that's both homey and luxurious. During your comfortable fall stay, make meals in the well-stocked gourmet kitchen complete with a wine fridge, play board games with your family or friends, or head outside for mini golf or corn hole. The Tranquil Retreat also has a meditative labyrinth you can walk around for an added sense of peace. Dogs are allowed for an extra charge, and EV charging is available upon request. Make your escape to Munds Park this fall!

5. The Cabin At Oak Creek - Sedona

I've always been drawn to Oak Creek in Sedona. Something about this creek brings an overwhelming sense of peace, and if that's what you're searching for, perhaps a retreat to The Cabin at Oak Creek is for you. The cabin was built in 1946 and, while modernized, it has maintained a rustic, cozy appeal with its floor-to-ceiling wood and stone fireplace. Only 100 feet away from the cabin is Oak Creek, and the fact that it's so close is tempting me to book a stay here this fall. How about you?

There you have it — five options for a cozy cabin autumn escape in Arizona. Whether a bustling town like Prescott, Flagstaff, or Sedona is calling your name, or you feel the need for a more secluded escape to a community like Overgaard or Munds Park, you'll experience crisp, fresh air and, perhaps, fall foliage as well. Don't forget your sweaters and boots for your seasonal escape!
