The One Thing To Do in Alaska Before the End of the Year

This cozy, one-of-a-kind vacation rental is the perfect way to wrap up your year with wonder.

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. In fact, as I write this, I’m wearing my favorite Christmas sweater and have a cup of hot chocolate next to me in a holiday-themed mug. While I certainly love my holiday traditions, each year, I try to find something new to do with my family, and I’ve found just the thing. In fact, this is the one thing I must do before the year comes to an end. It is a holiday stay in North Pole, Alaska, at the unique Gnome Home Airbnb.

It's impossible not to get into the Christmas spirit in North Pole, Alaska. This small town, near Fairbanks, is not only known for its unique name but also its year-round Christmas spirit. Regardless of the season, you’ll find Christmas décor lining the holiday-named streets (think Snowman Lane, Mistletoe, Kris Kringle, etc.). This town is also home to the Santa Claus House, a well-known Christmas store that feels like Santa’s workshop when you step inside.

Inside, you’ll find one bathroom and one bedroom, and this Airbnb comfortably sleeps up to four guests. Although not overly large, the home features an open studio design, making it feel quite spacious. Downstairs, you can get cozy in the seating area, kitchenette, on a queen-size bed, or in the bathroom. Upstairs is the private bedroom. Make note that you will need to climb the stairs to reach the bedroom, and the cabin’s bathroom does not have a bathtub—it’s a shower only.

Of course, throughout the space, you'll enjoy many festive touches from red flooring all throughout the Airbnb to green trim along the walls and windows. Wake up or warm up with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in one of the gnome-themed mugs. Even the décor on the walls features colorful gnomes, adding magic, whimsy, and fun to your stay.

Spend the last few days of the year snuggled up with a good book or in good conversation without ever leaving this Alaska Airbnb.
