Hike Out To The Remote Don Moller Cabin In Alaska This Winter And Spend The Night Under The Aurora

If you’re looking for a true winter adventure, the Don Moller Cabin in Alaska has everything you’re looking for and more. Accessible only by hiking, snow machining, snow shoeing, or cross country skiing, this is the perfect weekend adventure. Pack your gear and head on out to this unbelievable remote cabin outside of Juneau.

If you want an adventure into the Tongass National Forest this winter, head on out to the Don Moller Cabin.

Take a trail out into the forest and enjoy everything that winter in Alaska has to offer. You’ll find snow-capped mountain peaks, tons of feet of snow, and a warm, cozy cabin at the end of the trail.

The trail to get out to the cabin is 5.8 miles, out and back.

Elevation gain is 1,312 feet throughout the trail, and there are boardwalks along the way. Although if the snow is deep enough, you may not see them at all.

You can hike, snowshoe, ski, or even snow machine out to the cabin, although the snow has to be at least a foot deep to use a snow machine.

The trail doesn’t require much in the way of technical ability, so it’s a fun hike for the whole family. Just make sure to be aware of avalanche danger in the area, and be prepped on our winter backcountry hiking before you go.

The cabin itself is gorgeous and stands two stories high.

You’ll find a table and benches, a propane furnace supplied with propane, a wood stove, snow shovel and an outhouse. There’s also a beautiful covered deck that extends from the front of the cabin and an additional deck extends from the second floor and overlooks the valley.

The cabin sleeps up to seven people total.

There’s a double and single bunk on the first floor, and the loft can sleep up to four people. Plenty of room for a large family or two groups!

Rates for the cabin are $75 per night, year round.

This beautiful cabin is open and available to rent all year long, but it’s truly something special in the winter time.
