Cozy Up In A Magical Waterfront Cave Cabin Surrounded By Woods And Waterfalls In Alabama

Perhaps you've visited or at least marveled over pictures of Alabama's cave restaurant, the Rattlesnake Saloon in Tuscumbia. But have you heard about the waterfront cave cabin in Houston, Alabama you can stay in that's just an hour's drive southeast?

The cave is located on Smith Lake, tucked away at the end of a slough. While it is not along the main ridge line like other lake properties, it offers a unique, cliff-top view of the lake. The lakefront area includes decks and slopes, and a walkway leading to a swimming pier.

Besides the lush woodlands and lake views many people never see, add in some waterfalls with an adjacent space for picnicking and relaxing around a firepit.

Now we've set that scene, you'll descend about 25 or so steps to reach the cave, where you'll find a rustic cabin appointed with modern amenities (and fast WiFi!).

The cabin has a cozy fireplace and lots of windows offering beautiful views of the natural surroundings.

The ideal maximum number of guests in the cabin is four, as it has one bedroom that sleeps two and can sleep two more in the living room.

Now, for the "patio," which is the approximately 1,500-square-foot space that extends into the cave alongside the cabin. It has many seating arrangements, fire pits, and a recessed area called the Lion's Den.

By night, the cave lights up with ambient colors and festive string bulbs, making it a magical setting for friends to gather. The host for the property offers options for larger groups to camp in the cave or by the waterfalls if it's arranged ahead of time.

If you're already making plans to stay at this cave cabin in Houston, Alabama, note that reservations must be made three months in advance. While that seems like a lot of lead time, it sure looks worth it for a magical experience on Smith Lake.
