One Of The Most Famous Outlaw Hideouts In America Is Right Here In Wyoming

Hole-in-the-Wall in Wyoming is a famous outlaw hideout with a fascinating history.

If you break the law and don't want to get caught, you better find a good place to hide. While there are many remote locations around the Cowboy State that make for ideal hideouts, there is one location that is the best of the best — Hole-in-the-Wall. This is a famous outlaw hideout in Wyoming and it has a fascinating history.

This remote spot, known as Hole-in-the-Wall, is located in the Big Horn Mountains of Johnson County in northern Wyoming. The area is mostly known as a pass.

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, this area was a famous hideout for outlaws such as Jesse James, Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch, and the Logan Brothers. Jesse James is pictured in the first photo. In the second photo, front row left to right is the Sundance Kid, Tall Texan, and Butch Cassidy. Standing are News Carver and Kid Curry.

The remoteness of this spot is why it was so appealing to the outlaws. Hole-in-the-Wall was remote, secluded, and hard to reach. The 360-degree views made it easy to spot approaching lawmen and the narrow passes made it easy to defend.

This famous outlaw hideout in Wyoming was a great spot to accommodate rustled cattle because of the grassy plateau at the top for grazing and the irrigated creek bed of the canyon.

Today, Hole-in-the-Wall is located on a cattle, horse, and guest ranch. Guests can access this famous site in Wyoming via a dusty dirt road. A small foot trail leads up to the pass.
