10 Legitimate Signs That You Grew Up In Wyoming

Like any state, the inhabitants of Wyoming have a unique set of experiences and views that separate us from other states. And we can spot people who grew up in our states as soon as we start talking to them. Wanna know what to look for? Check out the ten most obvious signs that someone grew up in Wyoming.

1. You stay out of town during Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Cheyenne is a town with a population somewhere between 60,000 and 70,000 people (depending on whether or not you count people who live in the no man’s land out of town that identify as Cheyenne residents). Cheyenne Frontier Days is an annual rodeo that draws tourists from all over the world. This makes the town a nightmare to drive in, so most people who’ve lived here awhile know to avoid town during rodeo season.

3. You don't laugh at Kum & Go anymore.

For pretty self-explanatory reasons, tourists always get a good laugh out of the Kum & Go gas station chain.

4. You have a healthy mistrust of Colorado drivers.

Colorado drivers are statistically bad, so when we see someone with Colorado plates, we give them plenty of space.

5. People from Wyoming will never admit it, but we all love the Broncos

Since Wyoming doesn't have a team of our own, most of us root for the Broncos. Just don't tell anybody from Colorado that.

6. Seeing antelope in town doesn't faze you anymore.

Wyoming is one of the most rural states in the nation. This means wildlife is easily able to waltz right onto some of our busiest roads.

7. You've been attacked by a tumbleweed.

Wyoming has a lot of picturesque towns complete with tumbleweeds dancing across the road a la a Clint Eastwood movie. Unfortunately, because of the wind, those same tumbleweeds are occasionally launched into your windshield/face.

8. You're surprised when winter only lasts half the year.

Wyoming has two seasons: winter and construction. Winters also tend to extend throughout a substantial portion of the year, so it’s genuinely shocking when our winters end before April.

9. You're terrified of big cities.

Wyoming’s largest towns don’t exceed 70,000 people, so legitimately large towns are terrifying to the majority of us.

10. You're comfortable around guns.

Most people born and raised in Wyoming have shot a gun before. It’s a legitimate hobby out here, so a lot of us really enjoy it. At the very least, even if they haven’t shot a gun they’re so pervasive in this part of the country that there are few who are legitimately scared of them.
