11 Reasons The Entire Country Should Be Thankful For Washington
Washington State contributes significantly to the nation with its agricultural products, inventions, and cultural influences, making it a state to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
Are you excited for Thanksgiving?? There's only a couple of days left until we can enjoy the feast of the year, and also take a day to be thankful for everything we have. From agriculture to inventions, Washington has given back and continues to give a lot to this great country. This holiday season, here are 11 reasons in particular why the entire country should be thankful for us:
1. Without our state producing almost 70% of all fresh apples for the country, how would everyone be able to enjoy sweet apple pie or hot apple cider this season?
2. In addition, we're the largest mint-producing area in the world when it comes to spearmint and peppermint - a staple flavor this season.
3. Delivering Christmas presents that were purchased online wouldn’t be possible without the United Parcel Service (UPS), which was also founded in our state by James Casey in 1907.
4. Washington is also responsible for exporting more fish than any other state in the whole nation.
5. Those who enjoy gaming wouldn’t be able to play XBOX had it not been developed by Microsoft in our state in 2001.
6. Our state has been home to so many uniquely talented musicians like Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Bing Crosby, Macklemore, and artists like Dale Chihuly.
7. We're the second largest producer of potatoes in the country, supplying many people with the ingredients to make delicious mashed potatoes this Thanksgiving.
8. Our local companies like REI, Nordstrom, and Amazon have completely revolutionized industries across the country.
9. Speaking of local companies, the groundbreaking Cinnabon chain got started in our state! They opened their first location at the SeaTac mall in 1985.
10. We lead the nation in red raspberry production. In 2010, our state raised 61 million pounds of raspberries valued at nearly $50 million.
11. Almond Roca is produced right here in Tacoma - a perfect Christmas candy!
