The Haunted Cemetery In Texas Both History Buffs And Ghost Hunters Will Love

There are a great many haunted places in Texas, but few have a history quite as rich as the Glenwood Cemetery in Houston. Many famous folks are interred here, including the last president of the Republic of Texas. Oh, and did we mention it's crawling with ghosts? That shouldn't come as a surprise, considering the cemetery has been around for more than 150 years. Whether you're a history buff, ghost hunter, or a little bit of both, a trip to Glenwood Cemetery promises to be a spooktacular good time.

The first professionally designed cemetery in Houston, Glenwood Cemetery dates to 1871.

Glenwood is also one of the oldest and most historic cemeteries in Houston. Located near Eleanor Tinsley Park, along the shores of Buffalo Bayou, the 84-acre site houses the graves of some of the most influential people in Texas history.

Among the most notable of the gravesites is that of Anson Jones, the last president of the Republic of Texas.

You will also see the final resting place of Howard Hughes, one of the most successful businessmen and aviators to ever come out of Houston, along with his family.

The cemetery is riddled with other famous graves, from politicians to philanthropists to business magnates. Notable buries aside however, Glenwood is one of the most beautiful graveyards you will ever visit, featuring lush greenery and shaded, meandering trails.

You'll be awestruck by the craftsmanship that went into many of the headstones and memorials, feeling a tangible sense of peace as you study them with admiration.

As tranquil as the grounds may seem, however, Glenwood Cemetery has a dark side. The owner was mercilessly killed, and the case has since gone cold.

Additionally, paranormal investigators have repeatedly discovered anomalies in the cemetery, such as inexplicably high EMF (electromagnetic frequency) readings. Could this energetic phenomenon be due to the restless spirits of those buried here...or perhaps the murdered caretaker in search of vengeance?
