There’s No House In The World Like This One In Austin

The saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure" definitely rings true for this little house in Austin. The Cathedral of Junk, located on Lareina Street, has been around since 1988 and has grown to contain more junk than you ever knew existed. Find out more about the Cathedral and its owner below:

The cathedral contains over 60 tons of junk that Vince Hannemann has collected since 1988 when he began constructing it.

When questioned about his motives, Hannemann says he decided to build the cathedral simply because he liked the idea. You can find everything from car bumpers, wheels from various vehicles, utensils, bottles, and other unidentifiable objects - all pieced together in a random yet strategic way in this man's tiny backyard.

Some of the contraptions are things like lit up signs and clocks that still operate, making it almost like a giant living robot.

There are even themed rooms like the "Throne Room" which is in the heart of the cathedral

Have you ever been to the Cathedral of Junk? Are there any other weird houses in Austin that deserve to be written about?
