The Revolutionary War Comes To Life At This Huge Battle Reenactment In South Carolina

There's no denying South Carolina's significance in the American Revolution. Many important battles were won (and lost) here in the fight for independence. Few spots in the Palmetto State celebrate the battles fought here more than Historic Camden, the site of two important conflicts in 1780 and 1781. For two days each year, Historic Camden's Revolutionary War Field Days gives spectators an opportunity to step back in time when hundreds of reenactors - and thousands of spectators - from all over the country converge on Camden for this weekend reenactment.

The weekend is filled with reenactors from both sides of the historic conflict.

The two-day event features firing demonstrations (including cannons), costumed reenactors, a demonstration field hospital, and Calvary horses.

A stroll down Merchant Row yields a variety of period items for sale including clothing, food, and other essentials of the day.

The site at Historic Camden is more than 100 acres strong and includes the reconstructed Kershaw-Cornwallis House and recently rehabilitated c. 1800 McCaa’s Tavern.

Wear your street clothes or wear your period attire and get ready to cheer on the Americans in an hour-long reenactment battle that takes place each day at 1:30.

Visitors line up in safety on the other side of the ditch and watch in amazement as both sides battle it out in this historical reenactment.

The two Revolutionary War battles in Camden took place in April and August. Historic Camden has hosted this reenactment event in the fall of every year since 1970.
