10 Surefire Signs You Have Strong Roots in Rhode Island

How lucky are we to live in Rhode Island? To call this beautiful state with sandy beaches, ocean views, and some of the best seafood in New England our home? Some were born here; others migrated here from other parts of the country and, indeed, the globe. Regardless of where we come from or how long we’ve been here, we all have one thing in common: Rhode Island is home, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. No matter how far we travel, there’s something so comforting about coming back home to Rhode Island, where our roots are. We can even show off our pride, thanks to the Wear Your Roots brand. See if you agree that these are 10 surefire signs you have strong roots in Rhode Island.

1. We can handle anything that comes our way.

We’re resilient and a lot of that comes from living in a state where the weather can be, well, finicky, and that might be an understatement. We’re old pros at facing snowstorms head on, too.

2. We’re all about good food – can you say seafood?

Fish & chips. Clam chowder. Lobster rolls. We all know that Rhode Island is home to some of the best seafood in New England and the United States, and we all have our favorite place to get our seafood fix.

3. How about coffee milk?

Does anything else really need to be said?

4. Life as we know it would cease to exist without Dunkin.

We’ve got around 160 Dunkins in Rhode Island. Let that sink in. We love our coffee (and the donuts aren’t too shabby either).

5. Life’s a beach.

Beach days are in our DNA. It doesn’t have to be summer either. Nothing compares to a stroll on the sandy shore during the off-season.

6. Fifteen-minute drive? It’s officially a road trip.

Pack the snacks! We’re kind of spoiled when it comes to having everything – restaurants, shops, beaches – so close to us.

7. We all know there’s only one kind of lemonade.

If it’s not Del’s, it’s just not lemonade. Oh…and speaking of food. Hot wiener, anyone? Who wants a plain old hot dog after being raised on good ol’ hot wieners?

8. What turn signal?

C’mon admit it. We’ve all done it. We want to change lanes but it happens so fast that we just don’t think to flip on our turn signal. Instead, we slide right into the other lane, much to the chagrin of other drivers. We’ve all been on both sides of that scenario.

9. All those lighthouses…

So many people decorate their homes with lighthouse décor – paintings, knick-knacks, and kitchen towels (and the list goes on). Rhode Islanders? Well, we don’t know need to buy lighthouse décor because we all have our own favorite lighthouse...and it's likely just a short drive from our front door.

10. Rhode Islanders rule.

It doesn’t matter how far we travel from home or if we leave and only visit every now and then, Rhode Island will always be home. And…Rhode Islanders will always be some of the best people we’ll ever meet.

What do you think? This is, by no means, a comprehensive list of all that it means to have our roots in Rhode Island, but it’s a pretty good start, don’t you think? Jump into the comments, and share your thoughts.
