Crossing This Historical Bridge In Oregon Is Like Walking Through History
Want to visit one of Oregon's gorgeous covered bridges? Look no further than the historic Grave Creek Covered Bridge in Sunny Valley. It is one of the few remaining covered bridges in Southern Oregon.
But that was not always the case. At one time, Oregon was home to approximately 450 covered bridges. Today, less than 50 of these amazing structures remain. I have visited several of them and am always amazed at their beauty and charm. Grave Creek Covered Bridge in Sunny Valley, Oregon, which was built in 1920 and spans 105 feet, is no exception.
For over 100 years, this beautiful Oregon bridge has provided passage over Grave Creek in Josephine County.
Grave Creek Covered Bridge, originally built in 1920, is located in the rural community of Sunny Valley in Josephine County.
Covered bridges like this one were built to protect the bridge from the elements.
Rain, snow, and sun can all degrade the wooden materials on the original bridge.
Covering the bridge extends its lifespan from about 10 years uncovered to well over 100 years.
This bridge is also unique because it's the only covered bridge visible from Interstate 5, which spans from Vancouver B.C. to Mexico.
Grave Creek Covered Bridge is an inspiring window into Oregon's past. When are you planning a visit?
