16 Habits And Quirks That Make Oregonians Stand Apart From The Rest

Oregonians have unique habits and quirks that set them apart from the rest of the country.

Here in Oregon, we like to keep it weird, and indeed, there are many things we do that seem a bit, well, odd to the rest of the country. (That's on them -- we totally get each other.) Here are 16 habits and quirks that make Oregonians stand apart from the rest... in the very best possible way!

1. We think everything's better with cheddar... Tillamook cheddar, that is.

Wisconsin what? In Oregon, it's all about Tillamook, and we'll put this delicious dairy on just about anything.

2. You'll find us relaxing at the beach 24/7, 365 days a year.

With 363 miles of rugged shoreline that's free and open to all, we can't get enough of our beloved Oregon Coast.

3. Forget faux fur -- our winter coats must have giant rain hoods.

4. A five mile trek? That's nothing!

And while we're at it, neither is hiking in the rain.

5. Tater tots are a side dish, meal, and food group.

They are Oregon's unofficial state food, after all!

6. We know how to pronounce Willamette.

And just to set the record straight, it’s pronounced "Will-AM-mit."

7. Dutch Bros. Coffee has a special place in our hearts.

It's basically to Oregonians what Tim Hortons is to Canadians.

8. We eat elephant ears.

People in other places might called them "fried dough" or "scones," but they're wrong. These delicacies are "elephant ears," and they're best-served with heaps of cinnamon and sugar.

9. We'll drop everything to go on a last-minute camping excursion.

Oregon has some of the best camping in the country, and we're always up for a last-minute adventure!

10. Our cars all have four-wheel drive. Oregon is basically a Subaru commercial, and we need a vehicle that's equipped for our adventures.

(Our vehicles also always have a bike/kayak rack, too.)

11. We're crazy about fresh-caught fish.

Oregon is known for its abundance of incredible seafood, and we like it as fresh as possible.

12. We forage -- like, in the forest.

Most Oregonians have been foraging in the forest. Mushrooms, marionberries... the forest is our sanctuary, and we like to be as close to it as possible.

13. Fast food means Burgerville.

McDonalds? In-And-Out? Nope. In Oregon, Burgerville reigns supreme.

14. Flannel is a year-round look.

Flannel with shorts? Dressy flannel for a night out? We wear it proudly all year long!

15. We're big into DIY.

Call it our pioneer spirit, but we Oregonians like to make things with our own two hands!

16. We take for granted the fact that we live in the most amazing place on the planet.

We know that Oregon is wondrous, but all too often, we take our state for granted. Oregon is incredible, Oregonians are awesome, and those are just facts.

People from Oregon sure are a unique bunch -- some of the best people in the country! What other quirks about Oregonians have you observed? What habits would you add to the list? Share those in the comments below!
