12 Strange Habits Every Oregonian Will Defend To The Death

Life in Oregon is unique through and through, so it's no wonder that certain habits are bred among those of us who live here. For better or for worse, here are 12 habits many Oregonians are likely to share:

12. Wearing sweaters on the beach.

The Oregon Coast, while breathtakingly beautiful, is often a bit chilly. We know that, most of the time, it's a safe bet to take a sweater with you to the beach.

11. Taking the scenic route.

With so many beautiful byways and country roads weaving through the state, we know that taking a longer route can be worth it for the views.

10. Refusing to use umbrellas.

Though it rains for much of the year, many Oregonians choose to go out without an umbrella. For some reason, they just don't seem necessary.

9. Rooting for our teams.

Just check out all those yellow and green shirts!

8. Eating delicious ice cream year-round.

There are so many mouthwatering artisan ice cream makers located throughout Oregon, how could we resist eating ice cream in the winter?

7. Spending as much time in nature as possible.

There's just so much to do and see!

6. Not pumping our own gas.

It's not exactly a habit, but Oregon is one of two states in which it's illegal to pump your own gas.

5. Waiting in line for brunch.

Oregonians love brunch, so much so that you'll often see people lined up all the way down the block to get a seat at one of the many popular brunch restaurants.

4. Attending outdoor concerts and festivals.

There are many wonderful outdoor concert series that take place each year in Oregon, as well as all kinds of fun and unique festivals.

3. Trying new foods.

Oregonians, in general, love to try new foods, whether it's a unique combination (like bacon on a donut) or a cuisine we've never experienced.

2. Driving the speed limit.

Some people (cough, Californians) are known to complain about people driving slower in Oregon. We do like to take life a little slower, and anyway, how else are you going to soak in all those lovely views?

1. "Doing It Ourselves"

There's a strong DIY culture in Oregon, and many people like to pick up new skills like knitting their own clothes, brewing their own beer, picking their own produce, etc.
