When I was little, my elementary school turned our courtyard into a physical map of North Carolina. The Western side of the courtyard had a natural hill and little bumps of mud and dirt to represent the mountains. The piedmont region was adorned in dogwood trees and was where the courtyard "flattened out" but still maintained a few hills. To the "east," a small pond was circled with a sandy cove and we'd throw seashells into the pond, pretending we were at the beach.
All the while, passing this courtyard daily, I couldn't help but feel as if I was floating over my beautiful state, envisioning all its glory in just one glance. Many(many) years later and I still wish to see North Carolina in one simple lapse, from the mountains to the beach.
Filmmaker, William Mauney, has given me just that with this amazing time-lapse video. Through the pain of crutches, three surgeries, and physical therapy, William took a bag of lemons, in the form of a mountain biking injury, and turned it into sweet southern lemonade by filming and photographing North Carolina in all it's beauty from the mountains to the coast. Locations include, Grandfather Mountain, Beech Mountain, Banner Elk, Sugar Mountain, Kings Mountain, the Outer Banks, Rodanthe, Salvo, Hatteras Island, and the Pamlico Sound. If you're like me, you'll find your jaw on the floor but still manage to say "hey, I've been there!" with each lapse of this video.
