Did You Know Nevada Is Home to More Mountain Ranges Than Any Other State?

From high-altitude peaks to striking red rock formations, Nevada has some of the most spectacular mountain views in the US.

Here's a fun fact you may not know about Nevada: the Silver State has more mountain ranges than any other state! You may not think of Nevada as overly mountainous, but it truly is. Although it's not "the most mountainous state" — that title goes to Colorado, which has the highest average elevation of any state — Nevada does, in fact, have more mountain ranges than any other state. Read on to learn more about this especially cool feature of our amazing state. Nevada mountain ranges are so special.

Believe it or not, Nevada mountain ranges are so numerous that there are over 300 different named ranges in the state and there are at least 100 more that are unnamed. Further, Nevada has 2,101 named mountains, and 40 of them are over 10,000 feet in height. These mountain ranges are all unique. You'll be amazed by the variety of mountains you can see in this great state.

You'll find rocky mountains dotted with conifers near Great Basin National Park. Near Las Vegas, you'll find mountains of bright red and orange rock like these in the Valley of Fire State Park.

In the Black Rock Desert in the north, you'll find incredible dark yet colorful mountains that seem to pop up from the sand. When you drive across the middle of the state on US 50, you'll be passing by breathtaking mountains pretty much the entire way.

Even from most residential areas in Nevada, you can see some mountains in one direction or more. The mountains of Nevada are something that makes this state so special. It's surprising that Nevada isn't more known for its many mountains and mountain ranges. It's time for you to get out there and explore as many of them as you can!
