Sometimes a city is just so charismatic that you'll never forget it. Those of us who have lived here in Kansas City for a while still find plenty of new things to see and do every day. Our city is full of surprises, whether that's in the form of new restaurants opening or fun events you've never experienced before. We love it that way, and we'd never change a thing! Welcome to Kansas City, and here's a few things you might not expect when you move in.
1.Getting lost is part of living here.
Even those of us who have lived here for years get lost every now and again. It just happens sometimes.
2. We have four seasons... but they get confused sometimes.
Snowing followed by bright sunshine? Rain with no clouds? Snow in early May? It all has happened here, so it's safe to say you just need to be prepared for anything.
3. Not all of us actually get to have Google Fiber.
It's not available in quite a few areas, and some of have even reported getting installations cancelled and accounts closed. Maybe it's too much hassle?
4. Our local nature scenery is amazing.
Even if you only hang out at Swope Park, you're still surrounded by amazing scenery everywhere you look.
5. We're fiercely loyal to our teams.
Whether it's the Chiefs, Royals, Cardinals, or Sporting KC, you'll find all sorts of team-repping gear to wear around town.
6. We have strong opinions about our go-to barbecue joints as well.
We love our barbecue, but we're unquestionably loyal to our favorite spot to find it. If you ask a group of people where their favorite is, there might be a debate headed your way.
7. Bugs don't give us a break.
Whether you're living in the city or further out in the suburbs, you'll encounter plenty of ticks and mosquitoes around during the warmer months. It's something you might forget about until it's too late, as people from other areas tend to only use bug spray unless they're out camping or hiking.
8. Our local music scene is amazing.
A few very important jazz artists got their big break right in Kansas City, so most of us don't bat an eye when there's live music played around us. Just appreciate the art, and tip them if you're feeling generous!
9. If you want to go to Denver, prepare for a long, uneventful drive.
I-70 is a long and boring road, with only windmills and cows to keep you company as you embark on the journey across Kansas.
10. We have the most amazing sunsets.
We're treated to amazing sunsets filled with vibrant colors almost every night. It's almost like a master artist paints the sky just for us.
11. It's the best place to live, hands down.
There's just no questioning the fact. Kansas City is awesome, and we're not afraid to tell you all about it!
