Built in 1896, the hall was famed for its incredible acoustics and architectural beauty.
The hall was built underground to make sure the street noise wouldn't disturb performances.
Performers and audiences were amazed by the near-perfect sound quality produced by the cavernous space. Elton John is known to have toured the theatre out of curiosity.
